Palais Hansen Kempinski Vienna Review

The Palais Hansen Kempinski in Vienna, Austria is a remarkable property that hosted our agency recently. This 5-star superior property sits on the famous Vienna ring street. They are perfectly located only minutes by walk to the nearest must-see sites in Vienna but while also being in a calmer area of The Imperial City. Designed by the famous architect Theophil Edvard Hansen, the property was built in 1873 in a striking Renaissance-style design.

Becoming the Palais Hansen Kempinski only 6 years ago, this property elegantly preserves the historical heritage of the building, being that it is one of the holdest building in Vienna, while also bringing a fresh contemporary feel. The Palais Hansen Kempinski offers many unique features that make them stand out from the rest. Vienna for the 10th year in a row was voted as the best city to live in the world and best quality of life. When you book at the Palais Hansen Kempinski you will fully indulge in what it is to live "the good life" in Vienna!

Hotel Rooms and Accommodations

Junior Suite

The Kempinski has 152 rooms to select from. They have a large selection of suites and is also home to the largest presidential suite in Vienna, giving guests 3,444 sq ft. of sophisticated luxurious space. I was hosted in their junior suite and was stunned by the warm inviting design. With 570 Sq ft. of space and a kingsize bed that feels like a cloud, the junior suite is a perfect choice for those that want to give themselves a special experience while in Vienna.

Junior Suite

Each room is loaded with state of the art technology with touch control on all the lighting in the room and two tablets beside each bed where you can order room service, contact the concierge team and search through all the events that occur daily in the city of Vienna.

Many of the suites can be connected in the event that you are traveling with multiple families. A selective number of junior suites are available with terraces that only enhance your time at the Kempinski.

Junior Suite Bathroom

The bathrooms at the Kempinski are absolutely stunning. Designed with detail in mind, you will be comforted with a warm heated marble floor as you unwind from a busy day while visiting one of the 100 museums in Vienna. Each room has a separate shower and bathtub. The shower and bathtub are controlled by touch buttons and the shower has a soothing waterfall shower head that is a dream on its own.

One of the unique features of the bathroom is its anti-fog mirror. A heater is behind each mirror in every bathroom that keeps the mirror clear even if you take time to relax in a warm shower. The original architect of the building was inspired by greek design. The Kempinski embraces this subtlety throughout the Palais and this bathroom is an example of that. With the greek design on the two glass doors, the details define luxury.

Edvard

A very proud feature of the Kempinski is their restaurant, Edvard. This impressive restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Star every year since 2014 and 16 Gault & Millau points. This restaurant is known as one of the top restaurants that Vienna can offer and locals know it well by name and reputation.

The Edvard provides a complete menu that has fresh and seasonal ingredients with a Mediterranean twist. Thomas Pedevilla, the chef de cuisine, has carefully crafted dished in the form of five, seven and nine-course tasting menus. To achieve the high standards that guests expect from Edvard, their chefs personally meet with every producer and supplier for their kitchen to ensure you are presented with nothing short of a work of culinary art with only the freshest ingredients.

26°EAST

My personal favorite, the 26°EAST. Here a warm atmosphere welcomes you in to relax and enjoy a conversation while sipping on one of their finely crafted cocktails. The bar has a wide range of the finest liquors to choose from.

26°EAST

I highly recommend visiting the 26°EAST bar and have a conversation with one of their excellent bartenders. The bartenders here are truly professionals at their craft. They love to discuss your preferences and create a cocktail that suits your desires. The 26°EAST bar also has a small menu if you find yourself enjoying the ambiance and prefer a more casual night.

The 26°EAST was voted "best hotel bar" in Vienna, an award that is quite the honor considering the fierce competition. Also, David Penker, the Bar Manager of 26°EAST was awarded the title "Most Innovative Bartender of the Year" at the Vienna Bar and Spirits Festival 2019 by Falstaff Magazine. Another honor that shows when you visit the 26° EAST.

Recommendations and Tips

The Kempinski Lobby

One of my recommendations while staying at the Palais Hansen Kempinski is to hang out in the lobby and enjoy the vibes. The lobby has an interesting story. Before the Kempinski purchased the property the lobby was actually an outdoor area where horses pulling carriages would enter through the high arched entrance you see on the left side of the photo above. The stone wall you see is actually the original wall that was exposed to the outdoor elements. The Kempinski kept this in mind when designing the lobby and beautifully brought a warm indoor atmosphere with an outdoor touch.

Austria is known for its beautiful glasswork when it comes to chandeliers. If you notice the impressive chandelier in the middle of the lobby its actually upside down! This is because the glass ceiling which brings in beautiful natural light could not support the weight of the chandelier. So they thought of a creative way to keep it as a centerpiece.

The lobby is a lively area of the hotel where you can drink and eat. A beautiful space that can be enjoyed while listening to daily live piano music as well.

The Famous Kemppinski Apple Strudel

Another suggesting I highly recommend is to make sure you are in the lobby when their homemade and hot Appel Strudel is served. This is a classic Austrian dessert that the Kempinski perfected with a secret recipe of the grandmother of their own patissier chef, Georg Hölbl. You can also take apple strudel baking classes to learn the secret within!
