Hotel Imperial, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna Review

The Hotel Imperial, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Vienna is unlike any hotel I have ever been to. This property was once the private residence of Prince Philipp of Wutteremberg. Built-in 1873, the palace was offered to his wife as a gift. From the moment you walk into the lobby you are greeted with true royalty being surrounded by tall marble walls and shimmering chandeliers from the 19th century.

Located on the famous ring boulevard of Vienna, The Hotel Imperial is in an ideal location with many historical sites right outside the front door. One of those sites is The Great Golden Hall at the Musikverein Vienna concert hall.

The hall is only 10 meters behind the hotel where guests are encouraged to consult their concierge team to secure your tickets for a live concert. Considered one of the finest concert halls in the world, The Musikverein Vienna is home to Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna New Year's Concert. Be sure to take advantage of the Music City of Vienna while staying at The Hotel Imperial!

For anyone that is familiar with the Hotel Imperial in Vienna, they may have seen pictures or heard of their Royal Suite. I was overjoyed to know I was able to see this suite and it certainly did not disappoint.

Arguably the most stunning suite I have ever seen, the Royal Suite was once the original apartment of the Duke and his wife. The Suite is 18 sq. meters with 7 meter high ceilings of royal space. In this suite, everything and anything can be made possible for you.

The hotel has been diligent in preserving the history of the property since its beginning. They have an archived guest book that dates back to the early 1900s. The Royal Suite has hosted some of the most famous individuals of the 20th century. These guests include Charlie Chaplin, The Rolling Stones, President John F. Kennedy, and Queen Elizabeth along with many others.

Welcome to Restaurant OPUS. Vienna is special for many reasons but when visiting the Imperial City I encourage you to enjoy the legendary fine cuisine. It's so good, it's the only cuisine named after a city. Vienna has 10 restaurants with over 14 Michelin stars. Opus is one of those restaurants being awarded 1 Michelin star and 3 Gault Millau Toques.

Guests can enjoy a mouth-watering menu that blends traditional Austrian cuisine with current global trends. A perfect option to experience a carefully crafted 7-course meal before going to a concert in Vienna.

Cafe Imperial Wien

Many may not know this about Vienna but it's considered "The City of Coffee." Cafe culture is an important element of Vienna's history. A place where people would gather to share and debate ideas and issues. The Cafe Imperial Wien perfectly embraces this tradition for you to enjoy. Locals and guests meet here to select from a wide range of coffees, apple strudel, and arguably the best Wiener Schnitzel in town.

Every day guests can experience the long history behind the Imperial High Tea.1873 was an important year in Vienna: the opening of the Hotel Imperial, the Vienna World's Fair, and the silver jubilee of Emperor Franz I. The transportation of pure water from the Alps to Vienna through an aqueduct was also accomplished in 1873. The aqueduct supplied the Hotel Imperial with running water- making it one of the first hotels to have this luxury.

This spring water is the secret ingredient that makes the tea and coffee and Vienna known as the best in the world. It's said even the British royal family ship barrels of Vienna's spring water to England! The Hotel Imperial keeps this tradition as guests can enjoy a cup of the finest tea in the HalleNsalon while listening to enchanting harp music.

Recommendations and Tips

Hotel Imperial Torte
Imperial Torte

There are so many things I can recommend while staying at this property but one thing that is for sure, is to try their world-famous Imperial Torte. This slice of chocolate heaven has an interesting story that goes back to the very beginning of the hotel in 1873. A young boy at the hotel secretly invented the Imperial Torte for the opening of the Hotel Imperial in 1873 in honor of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The Emperor fell in love with it and requested more to be made.

The Hotel Imperial has kept the original recipe safe and is the only place in the world where it is made. Today this famous Imperial Torte is shipped all over the world for chocolate lovers to enjoy.
